BLACK LIGHT PRESS 1987-91 By the time Hawk Press closed down I had acquired a Vandercook SP20 cylinder press and had, on extended loan, a wonderful 1830s Albion handpress now back with its owner, the Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington, New Zealand. By this time also I was reading Roderick Cave’s The Private Press , Clifford Burke’s Printing Poetry, and most of all, Lewis Allen’s Printing with the Handpress . Allen’s book became my work- book during this time, and I found endless real information and pleasure in the pages of Fine Print magazine. To start up Black Light I bought a Vandercook SP15 and borrowed again the Albion from the Library. As with Hawk, Black Light books are now all out of print, but here is the full checklist of its publications. The archives of both Hawk and Black Light presses were purchased by The Alexander Turnbull Library. |
