from the prospectus : ‘This project, which takes inspiration from Piet Mondrian’s early somewhat figurative work, unfolds around Gimblett’s blazing kaleidoscopic watercolor spreads. . . . Mondrian’s flowers is paradoxically restrained and untamed, figurative and abstract. . .governed by refined language, careful reflection and balanced Zen-like composition’. The book size is 14x10 inches, and contains three long poems and five double-spread images. Four of the images are monoprints executed by Ruth Lingen in New York City, the fifth being an original double-spread signed watercolor drawing by Gimblett, each one unique. Text is printed by Inge Bruggeman on Hahnemühle Copperplate paper at Textura Letterpress in Portland Oregon. Binding is red Barcelona paper over boards with an exposed spine incorporating yellow, red, white, black and blue papers in a nod to Mondrian’s abstract works. The bindings were made by Judith Ivry in New York, in a stamped black cloth-covered slipcase. The edition is 41 copies, with 25 for sale. Publisher is Steve Clay at Granary Books, New York City. 2002. While the edition went quickly out of print, the author has one copy for sale at AUD $4500. Order from Electio Editions. |
