This, the first Electio edition, has text & images by Alan Loney, based on a series of remarks on nothingness from the notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci. While this book is not a scholarly work of translation, other published translations have been crucial in informing the present text. The version found here owes much to those translations while differing from them in many ways. The images are made up from a single element—four images in gold, silver, red & black—one might be justified in thinking of the four directions, the four seasons, the four winds and the four elements, even if nothingness, as Leonardo says, ‘does not extend to the essence of anything’. The book is designed, printed and bound by Alan Loney. The type is Giovanni Mardersteig’s Dante printed onto Magnani Velata White 160gsm handmade paper damped for printing on a post folio Albion handpress. The binding with slipcase is executed by Norbert Herold. 2004. Page size 210 x 140 mm, [27] pp. Slipcase. 2004. Edition is 20 signed & numbered copies, of which 15 for sale at AUS $1500.
